It immerses you in the culture and customs of the time period, makes you think about what the lives of the characters were probably like by telling stories that are pieced together from the biblical details yet not explicitly told in the Bible, telling stories that are not simply re-hashes from other Bible movies. Also, the overall cinematic quality is better than many low-budget Bible movies, making the story come to life. Finally, I can watch Gospels with my motivation being actual interest, rather than feeling like I need to support another Christian cause.
